There is no surprise in this, not because the movie is incredible and provides well-thought ways to stop an asteroid from hitting the Earth. It is because the film has over 168 distinct things that are quite impossible in real life. The scenes of the movie work as a perfect exercise to learn how many items the NASA staff can recognize, even if it is an impossible thing.
Even though the film Armageddon is full of scientific inaccuracies, it is still very entertaining, and that’s what is a must in movies. However, if a filmmaker has to make a real film, he’ll first collect all the facts and would stay consistent with them. But mostly, the filmmakers only want to entertain the audience and make a lot of money.
What went wrong in the film?
The 150 minutes film had 168 impossibilities in it, i.e., an average of 1 per minute. It is based in space and reveals the things happening in the space, but nothing reflected in the film was close to the truth. The plot must have something to do with what happens in space, but it was completely missing in Armageddon. The question which most of the knowledgeable people asked was “why the writers and the directors have created this film”.
The plot included some impossibilities which are nowhere required and are present in the film for no genuine reason. The impossibilities were unnecessarily introduced in the movie to expand the plot and not to give any wrong idea about space, to the viewers. The film reflects the lack of effort of the writer in developing the script. Michael Bay didn’t study at all about the reality of the space but just cooked up something in his head and wanted the audience to believe it.
According to the critics, if not studying, then Michael Bay could have at least hired a Physics graduate student to go through the script and give him feedback on his writing. Most of the impossibilities must have been worked out or might have been deleted, but only if he invested even 10% of efforts in creating something factual and not just entertaining.
Also, it is pretty impressive how Michael has managed to earn fantastic money out of the poorly or stupidly made film – Armageddon. In the movie, there is nothing but things randomly blowing up in the space, while asteroids being the only central plot of the movie.
A critic rightly said, “Armageddon has got only some of the astronomy right. For example – There were asteroids in the film, and the fact is that they exist. And else there was something….. just something….. well you know, that’s all about it, there was nothing.”
NASA shows this film to their trainers, to check their knowledge, like, how much they have learned by far. And how many of them could tell about 168 impossible and improbable things in the film.
